We are changing gears here at DX Central as it relates to our MW Frequency Challenges. After cycling through every single MW frequency at least twice over the past 4 seasons, we will spend the rest of Season 4 not focusing on specific frequency ranges, but rather a theme-based challenge approach.
For weeks 19 & 20 of Season 4 we are introducing The 50kw Challenge. The goal is simple, log as stations from the United States (and Puerto Rico) that operate with 50kw during nighttime hours.
To make things easier, we have pre-populated all available stations to log/receive in the entry form, using data from Mesa Mike's site at http://mesamike.org/radio/amdb/ (which, while not updated since July 2024, has updated information on all 50kw stations for this challenge).
Participants need to simply choose the station from the dropdown menu that they are intending to log and then fill out the rest of the fields. Frequency, call letters, city and state are all going to be filled out automatically for you!
The challenge begins at 0200 UTC on Saturday, January 25, 2025 and runs through 0200 UTC on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Only receptions made during this timeframe will count towards the challenge.
The entire mediumwave band is available to DXers to complete this challenge from 530 to 1710 kHz.
Only receptions made using each participant's own equipment will be allowed (no online SDRs not owned/maintained directly by the participant). Portable operations are encouraged, within 25 miles of your home location.
Entries can be made at dxchallenges.com (does require users to register).
Good luck to all DXers!
