MW Frequency Challenge | Season 4, Weeks 29 & 30 | The U.S. State Challenge

We are changing gears here at DX Central as it relates to our MW Frequency Challenges. After cycling through every single MW frequency at least twice over the past 4 seasons, we will spend the rest of Season 4 not focusing on specific frequency ranges, but rather a theme-based challenge approach.

For weeks 29 & 30 of Season 4 we are introducing the U.S. State Challenge. For this challenge, DXers are trying to log as many U.S. States as possible. There is a catch, though. For the first log a DXer submits from a state, they receive 5 points. The second log will net them an additional 5 points. No more than two logs, per state, will be counted towards the point total. DXers are free to submit as many logs as they want to, but only the first two per state will count towards their point total.

This will hopefully encourage DXers to not just log a station from a state to cross it off the list, but to try getting multiple stations from each state. For those closest to you, that should be easy. But the further you go........ :)

The challenge begins at 0100 UTC on Saturday, April 5, 2025 and runs through 0100 UTC on Saturday, April 19, 2025. Only receptions made during this timeframe will count towards the challenge.

The entire mediumwave band is available to DXers to complete this challenge from 530 to 1710 kHz. Any station heard (including TIS, pirate, etc.) are eligible to be logged provided the station logged is broadcasting on the frequency of reception.  No spurs, no images, no harmonics, etc.

Portable operations are encouraged, within 25 miles of your home location.

DXers must use their own equipment for this challenge.  Online SDRs are only allowed if they belong to or are managed/maintained by the submitting DXer.

Entries can be made at dxchallenges.com (does require users to register).

Good luck to all DXers!
